When Jason and I found out we were having a girl (the first time and again the second/third), we had the great debate around when we would allow them to get their ears pierced. My vote was while they were babies. My reason? Because they won't remember the pain and they can't mess with them so they will be less likely to get infected. Jason highly objected (and if you know Jason at all, he doesn't object to much - especially highly) and said if they aren't old enough to ask for holes in their body, then they aren't old enough to have them. Because he rarely has such a strong opinion (he's a pretty laid back guy), I said ok and waited
patiently for the girls to get to an age where they would ask/want their ears pierced. That day finally came for Addison a few weeks ago. One of her good friends got her ears pierced reminding Addi that she wanted to have earrings too. We talked through the process and reminded her that we don't do things simply because others do them. We reminded her it would hurt and we reminded her it would be her only big birthday present from us. She understood. She agreed. And she stuck to it! I was super excited! The time had indeed come!
With Jason's permission (and blessing even), we headed to the mall for the big event this morning. We marched into Claires. She picked the ones she wanted in 30 seconds (multicolored daisies). She hopped into the chair and away we went. Addison did AMAZING. Not a tear. Not hardly any expression at all during the process. At least not until it was finished. And then she was ALL smiles and SO SO proud of herself.

| ALL smiles! So proud! She showed everyone who would care! :) Love this girl! |
She looks so stinkin' cute!! Happy Birthday Sweet Sweet Girl!
Cute! It took Emilia a couple years longer, but she finally did it too (and picked the turquoise daisies), although she did hold ice packs on her ears the entire way there and right up until the piercing happened. :) I agree with Jason. I think that kids need to have things to look forward to - ear piercing is one of those things in my mind. :)
ReplyDeleteSo cute Brandi! I think we just missed you by a few days. Juliana, who is four, just got it done there. Janie, who is a few weeks older than Addi, is planning on about 20 years old. : ). Addi looks beautiful!
