My Favorite First Grader

Here he is!! Ready or not, I have a first grader - a child that goes to school ALL day everyday... ** sniff sniff ** The time has flown by. Everyone always says it will but you don't really believe them until you experience yourself.

At any rate, Micah started first grade a couple of week ago and he LOVES it. He loves having THREE recesses, having two snack times, eating lunch at school, buying lunch at school, playing with his old friends that he hadn't seen all summer, his teacher Mrs. Gorter, and maybe just maybe, loves learning while he's here too. But in all seriousness, his favorite parts of the day are the social parts. Definitely gets that from me. :) Don't get me wrong, Micah is super smart. Seriously. He excels in school and has done fantastically on standardized tests, but he really couldn't care any less if he didn't do any school work while at the school building. Totally cracks me up. In his grade, all the rooms are set up with a theme: the jungle room, the farm room, and the happy camper room. Micah's room is the happy camper room. His teacher appears to be really great and he adores her. So, it seems, we are off to a great start!
Meeting Mrs. Gorter for the first time.

Sitting at his VERY OWN DESK!
(My son is very much like me when it comes to being organized and having a place for everything. He was so excited about having his own desk and getting to arrange all of his school supplies "just how I like them". He even told me he cleaned his desk the other day because it was getting messy - warms this mother's heart!)

I do miss having Micah around during the day. He is such a huge help with his sisters and just a really fun kid to be around. I do find great joy though in the fact that he really loves going each day. He is pretty tired by the time he gets home each day which can make for a pretty crabby boy so we are working through what we need to do to make the evenings run more smoothly. Over all, we are off and running. There is no looking back, my baby boy is growing up!
